About The National Federation of Shopmobility

BHTA Awards Dinner Shopmobility Winners 2017

The National Federation of Shopmobility UK (NFSUK) was founded in 1989. The Federation is an internationally recognised organisation with affiliated Schemes across the UK, Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee and was a registered charity. On November 1st 2014 the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) took over the running of the Federation and it is now run as a non-profit organisation.

The NFSUK aims to provide the public with information on Federation members up and down the country that you might be able to find and hire equipment as needed. The Federation also aims to give the public peace of mind, as the Federation is now regulated by the BHTA Code of Practice which is governed by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). The Code of Practice provides a set of standards to which every member of the NFSUK must abide by. You can view the code here. Should your experience with any of our members be contrary to the standards set out by the code then please report this to us on 01933 229644. We take breeches of the code very seriously and you can rest assured that your complaint will be dealt with quickly.

The Schemes aim to promote equality of access and to encourage the independence of people with disabilities (permanent or temporary), through the provision of mobility equipment such as scooters, wheelchairs and power chairs.

Shopmobility unlocks many access barriers faced by people with a disability, and the rapidly developing network of Schemes throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Republic of Ireland and overseas gives people the confidence to travel, safe in the knowledge that friendly help and assistance will be available at the end of their journey.

NFSUK aims to support existing Shopmobility Schemes at home (and abroad when possible), and to encourage the development of the Shopmobility network everywhere. The majority of Shopmobility schemes are self-funding and are either charities, established by local authorities or managed by their local shopping centre or other commercially based organisations.

NFSUK is able to offer a developing range of benefits to its members. Please call us if you’d like to know more on 01933 229644 or email Shopmobility@bhta.com.
