The National Federation of Shopmobility UK (NFSUK) was founded in 1989. The Federation is an internationally recognised organisation with affiliated Schemes across the UK and Channel Islands. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee and was a registered charity. On November 1st 2014 the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) took over the running of the Federation. The NFSUK is now run as a non-profit organisation.
The NFSUK aims to provide the public with information on its members and teh services they can provide. The Federation is now regulated by the BHTA Code of Practice. The BHTA Code of Practice is governed by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). The Code of Practice provides a set of standards to which every member of the NFSUK must abide by. You can view the code here. Should your experience with any of our members be contrary to our standards please report it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Breeches of the code are taken very seriously. You can rest assured that your complaint will be dealt with quickly.
The Schemes aim to promote equality of access and to encourage the independence of people with disabilities (permanent or temporary), through the provision of mobility equipment such as scooters, wheelchairs and power chairs.
Shopmobility unlocks many access barriers faced by people with a disability. It gives people the confidence to travel, safe in the knowledge that help and assistance will be available to them.
NFSUK aims to support existing Shopmobility Schemes and to encourage the development of the Shopmobility network everywhere. Shopmobility schemes are either charities, established by local authorities or managed by their local shopping centre or other commercially based organisations.
NFSUK is able to offer a developing range of benefits to its members. Please call us if you’d like to know more on 01933 229644 or email Shopmobility@bhta.com.
We welcome enquiries from non-members and any organisation wanting to start a Shopmobility Scheme. We have an information pack available on setting up or growing a scheme. As well as information on how to join the NFSUK and how to meet the Federation standards. To obtain a copy please send an email to Shopmobility@bhta.com.
