Birmingham Bullring Shopmobility closes its doors againComments Off on Birmingham Bullring Shopmobility closes its doors again
Birmingham Bullring Shopmobility
People of Birmingham and those who loved to visit were disappointed a few years ago when the shopmobility service in the Bullring Shopping Centre closed down suddenly. Unfortunately, we have to report the service which took over 6 months later have now also closed. This is because the company who ran the scheme went into liquidation in March. Although ever effort was made to pass, the scheme on to prevent closure no suitable alternative was found in time. The scheme has now closed.
This is a tragedy for an area where the shopmobility service was very well used and needed. Those looking to visit the centre will now have to look at alternatives or not visit the centre at all. The Birmingham Scheme brought approximately £100k* into the centre ever year by enabling those with mobility impairments to shop for themselves. The Purple Pound should not be over looked.
Call to Action for all shopmobility schemes
We urge schemes to help us keep our figures up to date and accurate. Then when issues do arise there is accurate figures showing how vital scooter hire is to the economic health of the locality. Shopmobility doesn’t just provide a financial boost to the economy but also a health and well-being boost to those who use the service. This puts less strain on carers and family members by helping to maintain independence.
It is sad to see another scheme close after the Closure of Shrewsbury shopmobility earlier this year.
