Last week we announced the impending closure of Shrewsbury Shopmobility this week we are shouting about one of our more unusual members. Event mobility. Event mobility are a charitable organisation who loan wheelchairs and scooters to those who need them at events across the UK. This year they are heading to Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials -1st to 5th May, RHS Malvern Spring Show –  9th to 12th May, Royal Cheshire Show – 18th – 19th June 2019 to name a few. TGA a mobility manufacture and member the of the British Healthcare Trades Association, works with Event mobility to help them with transportation to and from the events which helps with the financial costs of running a scheme of this nature. However, as with all Schemes money gets tight, equipment needs servicing and replacing and staff need paying.

In a bid to help Event Mobility continue and improve their services, one man is taking on a mammoth cycle challenge. On 24th July 2019 Dr Mark Warren will be undertaking a solo ride from Lands End to John o’Groats to raise money for additional mobility scooters for Event Mobility.

As a keen cyclist who loves the outdoors, Dr Mark Warren will begin a solo bike ride from Land’s End to John o’Groats to celebrate his 50th birthday. However, he is aware how lucky he is to be able to enjoy good mobility and with luck and generous amounts of hard work, he will pedal 1173 miles over 11 days to complete his journey. Whilst completing his challenge Mark would like to raise £5,000 worth of funds to help Event Mobility continue to go to events and shows and provide equipment so that the mobility impaired can enjoy the things that able-bodied people take for granted.

The National Federation of Shopmobility is thrilled to hear of the fundraising efforts of Dr Mark and we wish him the best of luck in his journey. If you would like to contribute to Dr Mark’s efforts then you can follow this link to his just giving page http://bit.ly/DrMarkL2J .  Donations large and small all help to get to the target so please consider donating.
